My favorite movie.
Yes I was involved in an international romance. To say it was quite frustrating is an understatement. I do have some very good memories however. So these I will keep in my little matchbox if I need a flicker. I think the only advice I have to give on this before editing is be very careful “be loaded for bear,” and be very very secure in your values and “stick to your guns.” I have travelled the distance of roughly 3.5 times about the equator to Wales/England alone in the past few years (posted 2005). Much of this story is full of fun, romance, humour and mystery. Please be aware I am not responsible for what I say before my second cup of “cafe,” “americano,” or for my purposes “black joe,” before I write. One thing which people do find amusing because of my travels is that I can talk like I am from the U.K., North America, or the Southern United States. It comes in very handy to know the subtle nuances in each social setting.

P.S. I would like to give you some very healthy advice. Whatever you calculate the cost to be multiply this equation by 3. Take travel checks, a credit card and the particular foreign currency. You will run into places which do not accept checks, or credit cards. Especially in Wales and England.
We were walking from Robert Plants cottage where his sheep have R.P. inked on their arses and got quite stuck there as none of the moblile phones would work. The Wynnstay Hotel (Led Zeppelin Haunt)
I’ve been here many times and it’s one of my favorite places to stay or visit in Machynllyth. Don’t try pronouncing this straight away, just say Mach. This place was an old haunt for the boys as it was a place to play and clean up as at that time Bron-y-Aur had no running water. The owner knows the boys and is friends with Eric Clapton. He has told me many stories. His name is Charles Dark and is now residing in Italy. He told me several very long stories about Plant and Clapton, which I will share soon.

There are a number of local connections with Led Zeppelin (see also my notes on Cwm Einion), and Robert Plant was certainly associated with > Bron-yr-Aur < a cottage in the foothills above 
Dyfi Bridge, for many years. Rock folklore says that Plant and Page spent much of 1970 at this cottage writing Led Zep’s 3rd and 4th albums. The name of the cottage is therefore very fitting: Bron-yr-Aur means Hillside of Gold. (To this very day, on a summer’s evening after the pubs close, you might find the occasional devoted fan puffing up the steep hill to Cwm Gila playing air guitar – or maybe they’re just waving their arms around trying to keep the midges away…) For many years Robert Plant, of Led Zep fame, had a country retreat in Cwm Einion – I believe he still does – and used to buy his ironmongery supplies from my father’s shop in Machynlleth. Some say that “Stairway to Heaven” was written here and, as you follow the narrow road as it twists up the valley, you can understand the title. (However, I’m not getting dragged into an argument over this – there are many other explanations offered…) Robert Plant issued a record in 1993 with a track entitled “Artist’s Valley”, and in 1994 produced the video “Unplugged” which was shot in Corris, 6 miles North of Mach, on the North Dulas river.

Artists Valley, West Wales Photo Album This is where many of the scenes from the movie The Song Remains The Same were filmed. Plant has a cottage there which I’ve been to on several occasions, however for the sake of Mr Plant’s privacy I will not say exactly where it is.

Aberystwyth is a gorgeous little porting resort on the west coast of Wales. Members of Led Zeppelin have been known to frequent many locations here.

As far as I know Robert Plant has been spotted here twice. I have stayed here several times and know the owners personally. I have no current comment on management. Times change and so do I. I say treat them well and you will get the same in kind.
Try Aberdovey…which we will visit next. Aberdovey is a lovely port town which has gorgeous beach’s and much lore. One of my favorite hangouts is The Dovey Inn Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin have been in The Dovey Inn on more than one occasion. But first a couple pictures.

Stayed here and in my opinion the best place in Aberdovey to stay. Penhelig Arms, quaint yet modern with all the bells and whistles. About half the price of The Tref.
Ynishir Hall Hotel
This is where many famous people stay, actors to Kings and Queens and is in fact where Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones stay when they are in town. It’s a gorgeous place to be.

I’ve stayed in Borth on several occasions. Very nice in the Summer/Spring, horrible in winter, just cold and high winds. I stayed at Pebbles Bed And Breakfast for months at a time. A very scenic place to stay as the Caridigion Bay side rooms have a gorgeous view of the waves beating at the stony beaches. The web is under construction though.
